Roughstock Spring Wheat
Official bottling
Single bourbon - Montana
Green gold
45% ABV
Dram
Nose: Fresh cut grass, white wine, malted grains, ink, pear drops, hints of lemon zest.
Mouthfeel: Light body, loosens, tingly, hot.
Tasting: Sour. Pear drops, fresh cut grass, malted grains, ink, lemon zest, vanilla.
Finish: Short. Pear drops, lemon zest, vanilla, fresh baked bread, hints of new plastic.
Comments:
Light, lemony, with delicate flavours. But they aren’t very well defined, they almost seem to merge into one another. There’s also a slight hint of plastic on the finish.
Verdict:
I like this.

Roughstock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey
Roughstock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey
Official bottling
Single malt - Montana
Pale amber
45% ABV
Dram
Nose: Honey, vanilla, popcorn, hazelnuts, buttermilk, hints of pine.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, cool, slippery, loosens slightly.
Tasting: Sweet salty. Popcorn, butter, vanilla, salt caramel, butterscotch, hints of fresh baked bread.
Finish: Long. Buttermilk, butterscotch, fresh baked bread, popcorn.
Comments:
Very cereally, lots of bread, popcorn, even hazelnuts, and something woody as well. Plenty of sweet notes too. I'm reasonably sure this is not all barley, so 'Pure malt' is something of a misnomer. But it doesn't really matter - it's very good whisky, despite the lack of an age statement.
Verdict:
I like this.

Roughstock Montana Bourbon Whiskey
Roughstock Montana Bourbon Whiskey

Single bourbon - Montana
Amber
45% ABV
Dram
Nose: Bananas, raisins, cooked rice, buttermilk, hints of sweet corn.
Mouthfeel: Light body, loose, turns watery, slightly tingly.
Tasting: Sweet. Cooked rice, bananas, roasted sweet corn, cream, hints of lemon zest.
Finish: Short. Cream, coffee, buttermilk, rice crispies.
Comments:
The white dog from this distillery was more than decent. Let's see what the whiskey tastes like... it's got the same cereally, slightly starchy notes that remind me of cooked rice, and a nice tangy buttermilk note. But there's no mistaking it - it's really good bourbon.
Verdict:
I like this a lot.

Roughstock Montana Sweet Corn Spirit
Roughstock Montana Sweet Corn Spirit
Official bottling
Single corn - Montana
Colourless
50% ABV
Dram
Nose: Cream, sweet corn, grilled meat, buttermilk.
Mouthfeel: Light body, airy, astringent, slightly fizzy.
Tasting: Sour. Sweet corn, sour cream, buttermilk, orange peel.
Finish: Short. Buttermilk, sour cream, hints of orange peel.
Comments:
Oof. Corn white dog. This is obviously not that complex, it's still redolent of sweet corn. But there's good stuff beneath that - sour cream, some buttermilk, even savoury grilled meat (bacon?) notes on the nose. This needs some aging!
Verdict:
Not bad.
