Nose: Peaches, camomile, green tea, aluminium foil, honey, hints of sandalwood. With water, peaches, fresh cut grass, green tea. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, turns syrupy, tingly, warm. 
Tasting:  Sweet sour. White pepper, honey, sandalwood, apricot jam, honey, camomile, cornflakes. With water, green tea, honey, camomile, hints of cornflakes. 
Finish: Short. Camomile, green tea, sandalwood, honey. 

Comments: 

Cask 1. Obviously bottled some time ago and perhaps rebottled for Milroy’s. Spicy and with quite a lot of light herbal sweetness. A very nice example of this distillery.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Nose: Raisins, chocolate, strawberries, malted grains, pears, hints of dried apricots. With water, honeydew melons, chocolate, malted grains. 
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, hot, tingly, astringent. 
Tasting:  Bitter sweet. Coffee, strawberries, malted grains, vanilla, orange peel, hints of pears. With water, vanilla, honeydew melons, winter melons, chocolate, pears, malted grains. 
Finish: Long. Honey, coffee, orange peel, malted grains. 

Comments: 

Very fruity and intense. Definitely drink this at or near cask strength. There’s a bitter, malty note if you drink it neat, which softens into dark chocolate as you add water. A very fun dram to play around with by dribbling different amounts of water into it.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Nose: Strawberries, yoghurt, raisins, roses, vanilla, red grapes. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, slippery, slightly oily, tingly. 
Tasting:  Bitter sweet. Black tea, strawberries, raisins, walnuts, fresh baked bread, hints of hay. 
Finish: Short. Black tea, walnuts, fresh baked bread, strawberries. 

Comments: 

Port finished Speyside! It's a marriage made in heaven, heaps of strawberry yoghurt notes, along herbal, nutty and vegetal layers. Very nice, very satisfying, and a fantastic dram to start off with.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Nose: Brass polish, lemon zest, rhubarb and custard sweets, salt caramel, hints of peppermint. 
Mouthfeel: Light body, slightly astringent, turns watery, tingly. 
Tasting:  Sweet sour. Malted grains, lemon zest, salt caramel, rhubarb and custard sweets, vanilla, lime juice. 
Finish: Medium. Lime juice, peppermint, malted grains, hints of white pepper. 

Comments: 

Cask DL 11483. Surprisingly Rosebank-y, especially the rhubarb and custard on the tongue. It's also got that slightly metallic note on the nose. In the mouth though, different story, it's slightly sweeter, perhaps even a little savoury.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Red grapes, chillies, grilled beef, tobacco leaf, peanuts, fresh baked bread, vanilla, hints of cinnamon. With water, more vanilla, acacia honey, leather, more grilled beef.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, loosens, turns watery, slippery.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Vanilla, peanuts, chillies, tobacco, leaf, orange peel, fresh baked bread, hints of cinnamon, hints of saffron. With water, saltier, more bread, saffron, grilled beef.
Finish: Long. Chillies, orange peel, tobacco leaf, peanuts, walnuts.

Comments:

An unofficial official bottling - Scott's Selection is independent whisky bottled by the Speyside Distiller's Company. I don't know why they did this. Anyway, it's meaty, fruity and delicious. With water it turns saltier, and I can taste a nice (if slightly odd) combination of bready fruit and Turkish kebab. Very unusual, and very good.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Mouthfeel: Light body, slippery, smooth.
Tasting: Sweet. Vanilla, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, orange blossom honey, milk, hints of leather, hints of peat.
Finish: Short. Raisins, vanilla, chocolate, aluminum foil.

Comments:

A strangely named official bottling from the strangely named Speyside distillery. Anyway, it's very drinkable, if a little middle of the road. Slightly unpleasant metallic edge to the finish, but the nose and the taste are very pleasant, light and sweet indeed.

Verdict:

I like this.

Cu Dhub Black Whisky

Nose: Peanuts, molasses, magic marker, honey, caramel, walnuts, hints of peat, hints of orange peel.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, cool, turns watery, loosens.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Molasses, honey, peanuts, walnut skins, walnuts, hints of peat.
Finish: Long. Bitter, yeasty, walnut skins, peanuts.

Comments:

Cu Dhub means "Black Dog" in Gaelic. This is whisky distilled at the Speyside distillery, aged for approximately 5 years, and flavoured with a great deal of caramel, turning it black. They say caramel has no taste - well, it does. Not particularly nice, this whisky, with a bitter cast overlaying a lot of sweet but uninteresting things. A bit thin as well, given the 40% alcohol content. I debated creating a new category for my rating system ("bad"), but in the end, it's drinkable, so I won't.

Verdict:

Not bad.
