Glengoyne 10 yo

Glengoyne 10 yo

Official bottling
Single malt - South Highlands
Golden
40% ABV
Sampler

Nose: Oak, raisins, cotton candy, malt beer, vanilla fudge, nutmeg, other spices.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, watery around the edges.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Peanuts, vanilla, oak, christmas pudding, malt.
Finish:
Short. Sweet, banana .

Comments:

Christmassy (okay, plummy is probably a better word, but then there are all these spices knocking around...). Could probably do with more oak, which is why the 17 yo expression is better. Nevertheless, pretty tasty on its own, and the banana in the finish holds my attention.

Verdict:

I like this.

Jack Daniel's Old No 7

Jack Daniel's Old No 7

Official bottling

Single bourbon (!) - Jack Daniel
Golden
40% ABV
Sampler

Nose: Iodine, corn syrup, lemon sweets, cough mixture, chocolate, banana.
Mouthfeel: Very light body, thin, watery, static in mouth.
Tasting: Sweet. Cereal, oat clusters, milk, golden syrup, milk chocolate, hint of lemon, hint of cardboard.
Finish: Short. Slightly bitter, warm, cough mixture, banana.

Comments:

A little flat for my taste. Maybe it's the charcoal filtering - removes lots of flavour components too. It is smooth though. It's not good to be a whisky snob; Jack Daniel is still interesting, and their premium products are promising based on this flagship bottling. Hope all those times I drank this mixed with Coke can be forgotten now - don't mix your whisky!

Verdict:

Not bad.
