Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Whiskey

Official bottling 
Single grain - Connacht
White wine
43% ABV
Dram

Nose: Oatcakes, sultanas, autumn leaves, aluminium foil, digestive biscuits, hints of white spirit. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens slightly, astringent, cool. 
Tasting:  Sour. Sultanas, aluminium foil, cotton sheets, photocopy paper, oatcakes, hints of black tea. 
Finish: Medium. Black tea, autumn leaves, white spirit, sultanas. 

Comments: 

Cereally, a little bit sweet, a little bit bitter. Quite spirity, and it’s also got some feinty notes on the tongue. Very straightforward, and easy drinking. I prefer a bit more malt though.

Verdict:

I like this.

Dram

Nose: Yoghurt, lemon zest, white pepper, tarragon, fresh cut grass, honey. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, tingly, cool, expands. 
Tasting:  Sour sweet. Tarragon, yoghurt, lemon zest, white pepper, fresh cut grass, ginseng. 
Finish: Medium. Ginseng, lemon zest, honey, yoghurt. 

Comments: 

My first poitin! I made sure it was 100% barley (or grain).  It’s quite sweet, with a herbal, bitter edge. Lots of lemon in the background too.

Verdict:

I like this.

46% ABV
Dram

Nose: Tinned peaches, dried apricots, starfruit, lemon zest, honey, applesauce, hints of cinnamon. 
Mouthfeel: Light body, tingly, warm, slightly astringent. 
Tasting:  Sweet sour. Tinned peaches, applesauce, malted grains, black tea, white grapes, honey, dried apricots, cherries. 
Finish: Long. Dried apricots, black tea, applesauce, cinnamon, hints of cherries. 

Comments: 

Very fruity and light. Quite Irish in character - well, mouthfeel, at least - but also quite intense. Lots of spice and malt, I’m very interested to try more releases from the Shed.

Verdict:

I like this.
