The One Orange Wine Cask
Lakes bottler
Blended malt
Pale orange
46.6% ABV
Dram
Nose: Orange juice, pine needles, vitamin C tablets, leather, parchment, butterscotch.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, loosens, expands, astringent.
Tasting: Sweet sour. Orange juice, fresh cut grass, vitamin C tablets, camphor, malted grains, cinnamon, parchment.
Finish: Medium. Parchment, camphor, orange juice, cinnamon.
Comments:
I like orange wine finished whisky, even if it’s orange-coloured wine rather than wine made with oranges, it’s still a little citrusy. This one has citrus, but also a slightly powdery tart note, like fizzy vitamin tablets.
Verdict:
I like this.

Nose: Raisins, cocoa nibs, orange peel, camphor, roast chicken, hints of red wine.
Mouthfeel: Light body, hot, astringent, tingly.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Cocoa nibs, camphor, black tea, black pepper, raisins, dark chocolate.
Finish: Medium. Black pepper, dark chocolate, camphor, raisins.
Comments:
Sweet and meaty, again the whisky takes the cask influence well. Lots of nice Christmassy things are evident. Fairly standard stuff, if I’m honest.
Verdict:
I like this.

The One Sherry Cask
The One Sherry Cask
Lakes bottler
Comments:
Well sherried blend, the components have been finished in the sherry casks, then blended. I’m more partial to blends that are finished in sherry casks for a bit. Sherry is so powerful that you might as well go the whole hog.
Verdict:
I like this.

Nice chocolatey blend, the moscatel finish creates some lovely honeyed notes. The maltiness comes out beautifully on the finish. No water required. This is almost quaffable.

Nose: Toffee, orange peel, rum and raisins, malted grains, cloves, hints of shortcrust pastry.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, loosens slightly, cool, slippery.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Orange peel, malted grains, black tea, cloves, toffee, honey, nutmeg, hints of applesauce.
Finish: Long. Malted grains, black tea, raisins, toffee.
Comments:
Indeed, it’s a fine blend. Lots of fruit and spicy grains, the core of this is of course Lakes’ lovely single malt. But there’s Scotch in here too, particularly the gentle toffee’d grain. Quite delicious.
Verdict:
I like this.
