Mouthfeel: Heavy body, syrupy, oily, tingly. 
Tasting:  Sour bitter. Orange peel, leather, soor ploom sweets, fresh cut grass, smoke, lemon zest, hints of mint. 
Finish: Long. Mint, white pepper, smoke, honey, hints of orange peel. 

Comments: 

Pleasantly smoky, yet fruity Amrut. It’s got a bitter note that’s quite pervasive, but it presents a solid spine for the fruitier notes to play off. Nice long, slightly herbal finish, too.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Raisins, orange peel, malted grains, chocolate, fresh baked bread, hints of cinnamon. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens, syrupy, warm. 
Tasting:  Sweet. Orange peel, honey, chocolate, cloves, caramel, raisins, red grapes, white pepper, hints of cinnamon. 
Finish: Short. Chocolate, white pepper, malted grains, honey, hints of vanilla. 

Comments: 

Quite decadent, spicy and rich and intense. Lots of sweet notes as you’d expect, but a really nice body and a good collection of flavours. I enjoyed this very much.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Nose: Oranges, red grapes, leather, germolene, mint, hints of smoke. With water, honey, strawberries, red grapes. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens, hot, tingly. 
Tasting:  Bitter sweet. Leather, peat, sage, strawberries, red grapes, smoke, hints of mint. With water, smoke, tar, red grapes. 
Finish: Medium. Toast, leather, fresh cut grass, peat. 

Comments: 

Cask 2713. Peaty and herbal, with quite a lot of red fruit. I’m not sure where the light citrusy notes are, probably lost in the port finishing. Quite confusing, one of the rare instances where a gentler strength might bring out the best in the whisky. Pleasant nevertheless.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Bananas, plums, lemon zest, candle wax, vanilla, cream, hints of cinnamon. With water, lemon zest, honey, cucumber, vanilla.  
Mouthfeel: Light body, hot, tingly, airy. 
Tasting:  Sweet salty. Plums, lemon zest, malted grains, green tea, sea salt, hints of candle wax. With water, sweet sour, plums, lemon zest, honey, honeydew melons. 
Finish: Short. Lemon zest, bananas, toasted coconut, green tea. 

Comments: 

A triple distilled whisky from Amrut. Very young of course, but has been finished in quite a few different casks. It’s also got that odd combination of complexity and rawness that (I think) comes from maturation in a warmer climate than Scotland. It’s very pleasant, but I’d prefer a bit more age on it. 

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Red grapes, coffee, vanilla, butter, blackcurrant cordial. With water, orange peel, hints of lychees. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens, astringent, tingly. 
Tasting:  Sweet. Red grapes, vanilla, figs, blackcurrant cordial, hints of ginseng. With water, more bitter, black tea, ginseng, coffee. 
Finish: Long. White pepper, vanilla, coffee, hints of peppermint. 

Comments: 

This is apparently a bourbon cask, but the whisky doesn't taste bourbony at all. In fact, it's rather sherried, with huge fruity notes of red wine and blackcurrant. The spirit apparently matured in virgin oak for a time, which I guess is how the 'sherried' character appeared. That, and time in warm Indian weather.

Verdict:

I like this.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, slippery, thickens slightly, astringent. 
Tasting:  Sweet. Brown paper, red grapes, chocolate, raisins, hints of raspberry jam. 
Finish: Long. Brown paper, red grapes, raisins, hints of toast. 

Comments: 

Kadhambam means 'mixture' apparently. This is a mixture of peated and unpeated Amrut, but it's fair to say that the sherry influence of the cask has overpowered most of the peat. Besides a hint of toast in the finish, it's all jammy, chocolatey sherry notes. This is good stuff though.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Bananas, chillies, black tea, red grapes, leather, hints of salt caramel. With water, raspberries, honey, more chillies. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, chewy, chunky, thickens. 
Tasting:  Bitter sweet. Black tea, toffee, red wine, raspberries, hints of coffee. With water, chocolate, honey, strawberries. 
Finish: Medium. Red wine, raspberries, black tea, hints of chillies. 

Comments: 

PX Cask 2697. Quite sweet, red wine and raspberry notes are very strong, almost overpowering. Opens up a little with water, turns sweeter and chocolatey. Possibly the wrong whisky to have last in a flight of four, but it's really quite exuberant. Good stuff.

Mouthfeel: Light body, watery, airy.
Tasting: Bitter sour. Leather, grilled pork, cardamom, sea salt, blackcurrant, peaches, lemons.
Finish: Medium. Chillies, blackcurrant, leather, peaches, lemons.

Comments:

Mellow gentle peat, so gentle it devolves into leathery notes. There's an element of tart lemon, overlaid with tangy chillies, and something medicinal on that - the blackcurrant. Very nice whisky, with good peat levels. Yum.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens slightly, turns oily.
Tasting: Sweet. Mangoes, peaches, cardamom, apple pie, orange blossom, hints of grilled pork.
Finish: Medium. Orange blossom, mangoes, peaches, cardamom.

Comments:

Oof. Very Indian - mango lassi scented whisky! But there is an underlying current of peaches and grilled pork that isn't Indian at all. It's still delicious though.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.
