Dram

Nose: White grapes, lemon juice, ink, leather, brown sugar, gooseberries. 
Mouthfeel: Medium body, loosens, expands, cool. 
Tasting:  Sour. White grapes, photocopy paper, oatcakes, aluminium foil, ink, autumn leaves, smoke, hints of leather. 
Finish: Medium. Oatcakes, photocopy paper, lemon juice, ink, leather. 

Comments: 

Feinty and metallic, with earth and smoke. Lots of white grapes and a little citrus, but it’s mainly peaty. It’s quite complex for a 6yo whisky, and quite nice. Enjoyable dram.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Strawberries, red grapes, vanilla, honey, brown paper, orange juice, black tea, hints of nutmeg. With water, orange juice, black pepper, strawberries. 
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, astringent, tingly, fiery. 
Tasting:  Sweet. Oak staves, orange juice, brown paper, honey, black tea, blackcurrant cordial, hints of cinnamon. With water, orange juice, strawberries, brown paper, malted grains. 
Finish: Short. Black tea, coffee, cinnamon, brown paper, hints of nutmeg. 

Comments: 

I was quite taken with my first Fary Lochan, and was looking forward to this one. Alas, slightly less interesting. It’s subtly spicy, but mostly, it’s quite sweet and fruity. There’s a bit of over-oaking, but it’s rather tasty.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Lemon zest, nettles, fresh cut grass, green tea, chocolate, cotton sheets. With water, lemon zest, greengages, fresh cut grass. 
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, syrupy, oily, warm. 
Tasting:  Bitter. Fresh cut grass, green tea, nettles, limes, olive oil, hints of oats. With water, chocolate, nettles, greengages, green tea. 
Finish: Short. Lemon zest, limes, olive oil, nettles, hints of smoke. 

Comments: 

Cask 06. Nettle smoked whisky, a first in my experience. It tastes… green, and vegetal. There’s some bitterness and some savoury notes, which bring to mind a good olive oil, and a gentle sweetness overlaid on top. Excellent stuff, I’d be looking to try more from this distillery.

I like this a lot.
