Bakery Hill 5yo Batch 1
That Boutique-y Whisky Company
Single malt - Victoria
Golden
50% ABV
Dram
Nose: Chocolate, peat, smoke, sea salt, leather, dried apples, hints of seaweed.
Mouthfeel: Light body, slippery, hot, tingly.
Tasting: Bitter salty. Peat, chocolate, malted grains, sea salt, brass polish, orange zest, hints of dried apples.
Finish: Medium. Brass polish, germolene, sea salt, dried apples, hints of seaweed.
Comments:
Peated Australian whisky! It’s rather good, made in the Islay style, with a great deal of complexity. It’s quite saline, lots of sea salt and seaweed. There’s an underlying sweetness, but also some mellowed chemical notes. Excellent stuff.
Verdict:
I like this a lot.

Nose: Vanilla, raisins, chocolate, malted grains, hints of cranberries, hints of brass polish.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, thickens, sticky, warm.
Tasting: Sweet. Vanilla, cranberries, strawberries, chocolate, orange peel, raisins.
Finish: Medium. Chocolate, grapefruit, malted grains, hints of cranberries.
Comments:
Fruity and chocolatey, nothing very much wrong with it... but it's not particularly interesting. Pleasant whisky, for sure, and I enjoyed the slightly bitter notes in the finish, but that's really all there is to say.
Verdict:
I like this.

Nose: Raisins, dried cranberries, vanilla, peat, smoke, hints of soy sauce.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens slightly, sticky, mouth coating.
Tasting: Bitter. Black tea, peat, vanilla, dried cranberries, hints of gooseberries.
Finish: Medium. Black tea, gooseberries, orange peel, peat.
Comments:
A very gentle peated malt. There's barely any smoke, instead there's plenty of fruity eatery notes, maybe some savoury hints of the nose. Tannic bitter notes predominate once I take a sip, in fact it's a little astringent while somehow reaching all the crevices in my mouth. Decent finish, could be longer.
Verdict:
I like this.

Nose: Raisins, lemon zest, brass polish, green apples, hints of iron filings.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, thickens, oily, sticky.
Tasting: Bitter. Raisins, green apples, iron filings, oak, vanilla, hints of ginseng.
Finish: Short. Toast, sea salt, lemon zest, raisins.
Comments:
A malt from Victoria! Quite bitter, even tart on the nose. Very fragrant, not the in-your-face bitterness that you get from peated barley. Slightly metallic flavours, but not unpleasant. Interesting whisky, I'll be trying to get more from this distillery.
