Comments:

Quite cereally, lots of sweet dried fruit notes and a fair bit of spices. No water, it’s quite drinkable and doesn’t even seem to have much of an alcohol burn.

Verdict:

I like this.

Yellowstone Rum Cask Finish

Dark gold
50% ABV
Dram

Nose: Prunes, pear drops, ink, cooked rice, vanilla, cola nuts.

Comments:

A rather odd rum cask, lots of herbal notes but without much of that deep caramelly flavour. It’s instead popcorn y, with star anise and tarragon.

I like this a lot.

Yellowstone American Single Malt

Yellowstone American Single Malt

Official bottling
Single malt - Kentucky
Amber
54% ABV
Dram

Nose: Wet stones, peanuts, honey, brown paper, orange peel, white pepper, hints of lemon juice. With water, brown paper, malted grains, corn syrup.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, tingly, warm, astringent.
Tasting:  Salty sweet. Brown paper, honey, lemon juice, malted grains, cream, fresh baked bread, hints of corn syrup. With water, malted grains, fresh baked bread, corn syrup, hints of new plastic.
Finish: Long. Lemon juice, brown paper, honey, cream.

Comments:

Quite sweet as befits an American whisky, but there’s also heaps of salinity as well as some lemony citrus. Water brings out maltiness and even more sweetness, and some plastic notes that imply it’s a rather young dram.

Verdict:

I like this.

Precinct No 6 Sour Mash

Precinct No 6 Sour Mash

Single bourbon - Kentucky
Amber pink
47.8% ABV
Dram

Nose: Cinnamon, sourdough bread, rubber tyres, corn syrup, popcorn, hints of cornflakes.

Comments:

Sweet with some estery notes. Lots of cough syrup, medicinal notes that would be more pleasant with a malt base rather than a grain base. Young, slightly rubbery.

Verdict:

I like this.

Minor Case Rye Whiskey (Sherry Cask Finished)

Minor Case Rye Whiskey (Sherry Cask Finished)

Official bottling
Single rye - Kentucky
Amber
45% ABV
Dram

Nose: Brown paper, cloves, bananas, orange peel.
Mouthfeel: Light body, loose, slightly astringent, turns slippery.
Tasting:  Sweet. Bananas, raisins, cloves, orange peel, honey, strawberries, hints of vanilla.
Finish: Long. Chillies, vanilla, strawberries, orange peel.

Comments:

A young rye whiskey, perhaps slightly overwhelmed by the sherry influence. Still, it's not quite a sherry bomb. There's cloves, orange peel, plenty of vanilla, and these notes are still sharp and clear.

Verdict:

I like this.

Oof. Nice bourbon, huge coconutty caramelised notes that spread throughout your mouth, buttery and unctuous. Nicely spicy on the tongue too, and throughout the finish. Lovely stuff made by people who know their craft.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.
