Jack Daniel Triple Mash
Official bottling
Single bourbon - Tennessee
Amber
50% ABV
Dram
Nose: Cream, milk chocolate, honey, brown sugar, vanilla, cough mixture, brown paper.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, loosens, expands, mouth coating.
Tasting: Sweet. Milk chocolate, honey, fresh baked bread, cream, cough mixture, hints of rye bread.
Finish: Short. Cream, milk chocolate, honey, brown sugar.
Comments:
Sweet and chocolatey, a cut above the regular JD. There’s a bit of rye in this, oddly, and it makes for a slightly jarring note on the tongue.
Verdict:
I like this.

Jack Daniels American Single Malt (Oloroso Sherry Cask)

Single malt - Tennessee
Amber red
45% ABV
Dram
Nose: Honey, brown paper, aluminium foil, molasses, brown sugar, black tea.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, tingly, warm, expands.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Aluminium foil, molasses, brown sugar, brown paper, black pepper, coffee.
Finish: Short. Coffee, black pepper, aluminium foil, brown sugar.
Comments:
Sweet, malty, but with much of that brown paper note that characterises American whisky for me. Some metallic notes apparent on the tongue to keep it interesting, and then a short intense finish.
Verdict:
I like this.

Nose: Vanilla, black pepper, blackcurrant cordial, cough syrup, brown paper, caramel.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, cool, slippery, loosens slightly.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Magic marker, pencil lead, vanilla, black pepper, fresh baked bread, cough syrup.
Finish: Short. Fresh baked bread, brown paper, black pepper, cough syrup.
Comments:
Decent rye, slightly sweet for my taste, but there’s plenty of pepper and cereal in here. It ends quite abruptly though, the finish is quite short.

Nose: Honey, orange peel, jasmine, blackcurrants, vanilla, hints of preserved lemons.
Mouthfeel: Light body, loosens, expands, slippery.
Tasting: Sweet sour. Black pepper, jasmine, violets, allspice, vanilla, blackcurrants.
Finish: Short. Allspice, black pepper, vanilla, honey.
Comments:
Floral and spicy, with the rye quite prominent, I rather like this whisky. It’s got quite a few interesting notes wrapped up in a pleasant sweet sour distillate. Some slightly savoury notes too. Intriguing.

Single bourbon - Tennessee
Amber

Dram
Nose: Bananas, cornflakes, corn syrup, lemon sweets, honey, hints of limes.
Mouthfeel: Light body, watery, loosens.
Tasting: Sour. Honey, bananas, vanilla, corn syrup, limes, hints of peanuts.
Finish: Long. Chillies, limes, corn syrup.
Comments:
Too watery and light. It's less sweet than bourbon normally is, so if it were stronger it would be much more interesting and unusual. As it is, it's quite insipid, and it certainly feels less strong than 45%.
Verdict:
Not bad.

Single bourbon (!) - Tennessee
Buttercup gold
40% ABV
Dram
Nose: Orange juice, banana, ginseng, peat, brown paper, hints of peaches.
Mouthfeel: Light body, very loose, very watery, almost gaseous.
Tasting: Sweet sour. Banana, oranges, brown paper, ginseng, vanilla, hints of peaches .
Finish: Short. Brown paper, vanilla, honey, hints of peaches.
Comments:
Very faint flavours, watery and elusive. Not a particularly good ad for Jack Daniel's whisky. Maybe double filtering through all that charcoal removes more flavour than it adds smoothness. This is too smooth.
Verdict:
Not bad.

Single bourbon (!) - Jack Daniel
Golden
40% ABV
Sampler
Nose: Iodine, corn syrup, lemon sweets, cough mixture, chocolate, banana.
Mouthfeel: Very light body, thin, watery, static in mouth.
Tasting: Sweet. Cereal, oat clusters, milk, golden syrup, milk chocolate, hint of lemon, hint of cardboard.
Finish: Short. Slightly bitter, warm, cough mixture, banana.
Comments:
A little flat for my taste. Maybe it's the charcoal filtering - removes lots of flavour components too. It is smooth though. It's not good to be a whisky snob; Jack Daniel is still interesting, and their premium products are promising based on this flagship bottling. Hope all those times I drank this mixed with Coke can be forgotten now - don't mix your whisky!
