Nose: Smoke, toffee, lemons, soy sauce, pear, roast chicken, hints of peat, hints of iodine.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, static, slightly watery around the edges.
Tasting: Salty sour. Smoke, peat, butter, coconut, tamarind, green beans, hints of lemons, hints of oranges.
Finish: Medium. Blue cheese, smoke, roast chicken. Water brings out a little more soy sauce.
Comments:
Some regulars at the SMWS were hovering around this bottle at the bar, so I asked for a dram. Lovely! Typical Caol Ila smoke and sweetness, followed by very meaty, tasty, savoury notes. Lots of roast chicken and some green beans, and ending in a cracking finish of blue cheese, which is unique in my (very limited) experience. I really enjoyed this.
Verdict:
I like this a lot.
