Dram
Nose: Cooked rice, leather, peat, smoke, wet dog, shiitake mushroom. With water, red grapes, honey, damson jam.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, astringent, tingly, turns watery.
Tasting: Bitter sweet. Leather, peat, cow dung, honey, orange peel, vanilla, red grapes. With water, sweeter, bitter oranges, peat, leather, raisins.
Finish: Medium. Red grapes, peat, smoke, honey, damson jam.
Comments:
Peaty and leathery, very farmyard without water. It's scarily drinkable despite the strength, as so many of the best Port Charlottes are. With water, it mellows out, becoming sweet and honeyed, with notes of bitter citrus.
Verdict:
I like this a lot.
