Single malt - Tasmania
Amber, hints of red
60.2% ABV
Dram

Nose: Strawberries, marshmallows, vanilla sponge, raisins, cocoa nibs, hints of bubble gum. With water, chocolate, strawberries, black tea, peaches.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, hot, airy, tingly.
Tasting:  Sweet. Chocolate, cocoa nibs, black tea, marshmallows, strawberries, hints of raspberries. With water, orange peel, strawberries, chocolate, peaches, hints of sea salt.
Finish: Long. Sour cherries, strawberries, black tea, hints of bubble gum.

Comments:

Cask 1244. It’s light and quite refreshing, compared to some of the other sherried Larks that I’ve had. Quite fruity and estery, almost bubble gum like in flavour. That’s not a flavour note that tends to appeal to me, but here it is alright. Quite tasty.

Verdict:

I like this.

Nose: Blueberries, vanilla, mint, red grapes, oranges, hints of jasmine.

Comments:

Another port matured Lark, and it tastes pretty similar to the other one. Damson jammy notes, lots of red grapes, and this time, the tang of a fine jasmine tea. Glorious stuff.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.

Sweet and lush, just like all the Larks I've ever tasted. Slight bitter notes in the background, ginseng, coffee, really quite toasty and adds to the lushness. Sweet sugary cotton candy notes wreathed throughout.

Lark Single Cask (#115)

Lark Single Cask (#115)

Official bottling
Single malt - Tasmania
Gold, tinge of pink
43% ABV
Dram

Nose: Lemon, pear drops, raisins, iron filings, dried apricots, hints of marmalade.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, syrupy, thick, sticky.
Tasting:  Sweet salty. Caramel, pear drops, dried apples, chocolate, raisins, hints of coffee.
Finish: Long. Raisins, dried apricots, chocolate, hints of malted grains.

Comments:

Heavy, jammy and metallic on the nose, but not unpleasant. On the tongue it devolves into something a little more mundane - chocolatey, packed with dried fruit, maybe a bitter tang of coffee. And so it stays. An interesting whisky.

Verdict:

I like this.

Comments:

Great colour, this whisky, pinkish amber... no, practically pink. Plenty of fruit, especially dried and cooked fruit, but overlaid with bitter sweet chocolatey notes. Very tasty, and so wonderful bottled at the higher strength. Excellent stuff.

Lark Single Cask (#202)

Lark Single Cask (#202)

Official bottling
Single malt - Tasmania
Dark amber
43% ABV
Dram

Nose: Malted grains, oolong tea, chinese sour plums, dried apricots, strawberries, hints of dark chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, oily, thickens, blobby.
Tasting: Sweet salty. Oolong tea, malted grains, Chinese sour plums, strawberries, red grapes, dark chocolate.
Finish: Long. Oolong tea, Chinese sour plums, red grapes, hints of seaweed.

Comments:

Matured in a quarter cask made from a port pipe. This is oily, heavy whisky, incredibly flavourful. It's one of those where I think one's cultural background matters - I describe those tangy sweet-salty notes as dried Chinese sour plums, and maybe oolong tea. Someone else might say Moroccan salted lemons. It just drives home the fact that tasting notes are personal.

Verdict:

I like this a lot.
